Boarding at Sutera Harbour Marina Jetty
Your evening begins before you step aboard. Walk the jetty and pause to look down; the waters below are so clear they offer an almost aquarium-like glimpse of the seabed. The crew welcomes you aboard as the sun begins its descent.
As the vessel pulls away from the marina, the South China Sea opens up around you. The route takes you past the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, their silhouettes deepening against a sky that shifts from gold to amber to indigo. From open water, with the horizon unobstructed in every direction, there is no better seat in the city.
As the sun dips lower, dinner is served, a generous spread of local and international dishes on the main dining deck. Dine in the air-conditioned interior or carry your plate to the open upper deck, where the sea breeze and the last light of the day make for a dining experience no restaurant can replicate.
As golden hour gives way to dusk, the live band takes centre stage. Playing everything from local favourites to international hits, they have a way of drawing guests in regardless of where they've come from. As the evening deepens, the crew take to the floor for special performances including the Sumazau, the traditional dance of the Kadazan people of Sabah. By the time the city lights appear on the horizon, the deck has become a dance floor.
As darkness settles, the vessel glides along the Kota Kinabalu waterfront. The city comes alive in a different way after dark: lights twinkling across the skyline, reflecting across the still water below. It's a completely different kind of beautiful from the sunset that opened the evening, and the perfect way to close the night.
As the vessel makes its way back to Sutera Harbour Marina, the evening draws to a close. Two hours that began with a sunset and ended with a city skyline, with a live band, a dance floor, and a table full of food in between. The end of an evening you won't soon forget.
